If you follow me on twitter you will know that I recently took the plunge and made being-chloe.com self-hosted! It was a decision that I had been going back and forth with for quite a while but ultimately the freedom of truly owning my own site won me over. I didn’t do much research before going self-hosted but luckily for you, you now don’t have to. Keep reading and I will walk you through how you can make the move in just a few hours using *SiteGround.

Should you take the leap?

Now, of course, you don’t have to go self-hosted! There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping your wordpress.com or blogger site. You do you, if it works for you, there is no need to change. I ultimately made the decision so that being-chloe.com and all of its content would be mine and not owned by wordpress.com. Going self-hosted has given me the freedom to design my site as to how I wanted it. You can now choose any theme, plugins, widgets etc you want with absolutely no restrictions. You have the option to use google analytics and post advertisements making your site much more credible.

Why I chose Siteground

There are looaaaaads of hosting sites out there, you should choose the site that works for you and nobody else. Do your research and see which company offers you what you need. I chose Siteground as it was one of the cheaper sites I saw, I had heard great things about their customer service and they were recommended by WordPress.

The process

Before taking the leap, I saw posts everywhere saying that going self-hosted was ridiculously easy! And maybe it is… if you’re a tech wizard (I’m not). I didn’t find the process that easy but the good thing is I had SiteGround to help me every step of the way. Their live chat is 24/7 meaning that no matter what hour, you had their support.

The first thing to do is to choose which plan out of the three you would like. I personally decided to go with the StartUp plan which I think is suitable for most blogs out there. If you want to upgrade later, you always have that option! At only £2.75/month it is the cheapest plan (currently heavily discounted), meaning for less than £40 a year you can own your own site! If you don’t already have a domain name (I already had one with WordPress), you will need to buy one either from Siteground or from another website.

The next step is to transfer your wordpress.com site to the self-hosted wordpress.org, which Siteground do for absolutely FREE. You will be provided with a ticket number where you can communicate with Siteground and track the changes. You need to provide the link to the wordpress.com login site, email, and password so that Siteground can make the move. Unfortunately, hosting sites cannot access WordPress’ database and so not everything can be transferred over. Siteground were really transparent about this and instead installed a brand new WordPress application under the Siteground hosting account. All of my posts, pages and comments were transferred with the exception of likes, which I was okay with. To move the followers over, you need to install JetPack, which Siteground did for me so I didn’t need to worry.

You then have to point your domain to Siteground by changing its NS records. This is so easy to do, and Siteground was really helpful on the live chat by providing me with articles. You then wait for the DNS propagation to take place. WordPress state that this takes ~24 hours but for me, I’d say it took around 9 hours. And there you have it, your site is self-hosted!

Now what?!

Your site is now well and truly yours! Go crazy! You can now install any theme you would like, Siteground even helped me do this bit on the live chat even though they didn’t have to! I chose a Pipdig theme as they are so beautiful and responsive! You can customize your site however you like, install widgets and plugins such as Yoast SEO.

If you were on wordpress.com you now need to transfer followers with Jetpack. There are loads of articles online showing you how to do this, it literally took 2 minutes!

And voila, you’re done! The whole process took just over a day (it would probably take less time, but I started at 9pm at night and so was asleep for most of that time). Siteground took care of everything for me, and there was no downtime on my blog at all, I could not recommend this hosting company more!

Despite the help, it can be a little confusing, so if you need any help feel free to message me or a leave a comment below!

Thankyou for reading! Chlo x

Hello lovelies! Today is the last day of January meaning I have successfully been blogging for one whole month! It has been the most incredible month so far and I am so proud of how far I have come, deciding to blog has been the best decision I have made in a long time.

Throughout this month there are so many things I have learned about the complex world of blogging (and a lot that I haven’t), so here are 5 things that I now know! Let me know in the comments what the biggest thing you have learned so far about blogging.

1. Blogging is time consuming! Time management is key.

When I first started blogging, I didn’t think that it would take up so much of my time, mainly because I thought no one would read my little blog and so I wouldn’t have to post as regularly as others. Well, now there is quite a lot of you who follow my blog and read my ramblings and I am so eternally grateful. It means that now I don’t want to just post for myself but for you also, to produce quality content that others can read, enjoy and learn from. This year I am working full time and so posting twice a week has been a bit of a struggle but I am starting to understand what works best for me.

I am becoming a lot more organised when it comes to planning blog posts, taking photographs and doing everything I can in advance to make posting day a lot less stressful! I now write down my blog ideas, take my pictures at the weekends were I know I will get the natural light, and schedule my posts in advance… all of which make blogging so much easier and much more fun!

2. I am not very Tech-savvy

Before blogging, I thought I was pretty techy, and that blogging was as simple as writing a few words and clicking post. News flash: Its not. There is a whole world of blogging terms out there from self hosted to SEO, and hey even widget (yes I didn’t know what a widget was). Even something as simple as creating a bloglovin account I found difficult, and so blogging is definitely a learning curve. I am constantly learning more about the internet and the more you learn, the more there is to know!

3. Social media is extremely powerful

This is arguably the biggest thing that I have learned since starting to blog. I realised that I could have the best blog content in the world, but if no one knows it exists, it will just stay tucked away unread. I now always promote my blog across many forms of social media, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook (usernames: Being_Chloe96) and get so many more engagement. I used to think people would find me promoting my blog really annoying, but hey if I don’t, who will?

I still don’t know how to use Pinterest to promote my blog (annoyingly I got blocked after pinning one post… still annoyed) but I am hoping it is something I can learn in the upcoming months.

4. The blogging community is lovely

One thing that I love the most about blogging is how lovely and supportive the blogging community it is. Whether it is a like, a comment, a follow or an award nomination… all of them make me extremely happy and want to continue blogging. You are all always there to give me advice when I need it, or help when I don’t understand something, and it’s because of you guys that being-chloe.com continues to grow and improve as time goes on. Love ya!

5. There is so much that I don’t know… and that’s okay!

One thing that I 100% know, is that I don’t know everything. But I am fine with that! If i knew everything about blogging it wouldn’t be as enjoyable and I have you guys to learn with me. For example, I don’t know:

  • Whether to go self-hosted or not
  • How to use bloglovin – really does confuse me haha!
  • How to use pinterest
  • How to increase domain authority
  • How to take good pictures!

Thankyou all so much for following my blog over the past month, or if you’re new… Hi! I am proud of what I have achieved in such a small time and it is all down to you guys! Thankyou for reading!

I cannot believe that I have been blogging for less than a month and I have already been nominated for TWO blogger awards! I recently got nominated for the The Liebster Award and now the lovely Bea has kindly nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! You can go check out her post here.

The Sunshine Blogger Award Rules:

1. Thank blogger(s) who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.

2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.

3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.

4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or in your blog

My Questions

1. What is your current TV series/Movie at the moment and why?

This was a tricky question but after the release of Friends on Netflix I rediscovered my old love! I have always loved friends and have the boxset and it is one of my all time favourite shows. I love how I can now binge watch it even more on Netflix and laugh as if it was the first time watching.

2. Who’s your favourite person in the world?

Again, this was quite a difficult question but I would have to say my grandad. I absolutely love him to pieces! He is the kindest, cutest, most generous person and I am so lucky to have him as my grandad!

3. Tea or coffee?

For this one I can’t choose! I drink way too much of both tea and coffee which is probably not very healthy! I can’t help it, I need the caffeine and I love having a warm cup of tea to drink and be cosy!

4. When do you feel most beautiful?

I feel the most beautiful right before going on a night out! I love spending aaaaaaageees getting ready and doing my makeup and hair. I may not be great at either and I am by no means the most confident person in the world but using my favourite products and seeing what looks I can create really makes me happy.

5. What are your plans for the future?

Aaaah the dreaded future question! This is a question that I am never sure how to answer! I am currently in my third out of four year of uni which is an industrial placement year. This year has totally thrown a spanner in the works! Before this year I thought I definitely wanted to work in a Pharmaceutical company, but after working in a molecular biology lab for 6 months now I am not sure! I guess this is future Chloe’s problem to worry about…

6. Who inspired you with your blog?

The person who inspired this blog is… ME! I wanted to start this blog to help give me something positive to focus on and keep me distracted from some tough times I faced in 2017 (read more about this here.) Beauty Bloggers I read all the time keep me motivated to try and make my blog the best it can be!

7.If you could only use one platform of social media what would it be and why?

If I could only use only form of Social Media it would have to be Twitter! I adore the blogging community I have met on twitter, everyone is so lovely and helpful and really help to motivate me and cheer me up! I love the wide variety of people you get to see the opinions of on twitter, whereas on Facebook I see the dull posts that are the same thing all day everyday.

8.What is your favourite quote and what does it mean to you?

‘Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light’ – Albus Dumbledore

This is my favourite quote by the Big man himself AD. It motivates me to try and find the good in a bad situation and reminds me that there will always be some light in my darkest days.

9. How would you describe your fashion sense?

Unoriginal. I really need to work on branching out more with my fashion, I much prefer winter time as I can just shove on a jumper and I’m ready to go.

10. What do you do to make yourself feel happy?

Have a cup of tea… you can’t be sad when you’re drinking tea.

11. What piece of advice would you give to new bloggers?

Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers. This is something that I am guilty of. I only started blogging a few weeks ago and although I feel like I have achieved a lot in this time, comparing to other more successful bloggers can make me feel quite down! Always remember that an achievement, no matter how small it is, is still an achievement.

So that’s me!

Chloe x

Hi lovelies! Thankyou for once again stumbling upon my blog and reading all my rambling posts! I have only been blogging for a couple of weeks, so it was a lovely surprise to find out I was nominated for the Liebster award. I had seen this award floating around on twitter but never expected to receive a nomination! This nomination was timed perfectly as I was planning on doing a ‘girl behind the blog’ style post so you could all get to know me a little better. Hopefully after this post you will know the ‘Chloe’ behind ‘Being Chloe’

I was nominated by Emma from ThisMistyLife. Her lifestyle and travel blog is amazing! All of her and her boyfriends posts are so positive and uplifting and definitely worth the read. If you havn’t seen any of her posts, go do it now and thankyou again Emma for the thoughtful nomination!

The Rules:

  1. Acknowledge the blog that nominated you and display the award.
  2. Answer the 11 questions that the blogger has given you.
  3. Share 11 random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 5-11 other bloggers and notify them of your nomination.
  5. Give the nominees 11 questions to answer

My 10 Questions to answer are:

1. Whats your favourite Country?

This was such a difficult question to answer! I have been to quite a few places in my life, but my absolute favourite has got to be Italy. A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to go on a College trip to Pompeii, Sicily and Stromboli and I fell in love with how beautiful the country was. All three of these places are known for their volcanoes, and it was incredible to walk up them and see the wonderful views of Italy! I am hoping to travel around Europe this summer, and so who knows… maybe this answer will change!

2. Whats your dream job?

Again, another difficult question! I have always struggled to find an answer when people have asked me ‘what I want to do when I am older’ or when I graduate. I am currently studying to gain a Pharmacology degree and I was lucky enough to get a placement year in a Lab working in Non-invasive Prenatal testing! It has made me realise that I want to have a career in scientific research and to hopefully make a difference to people’s lives.

3. Favourite Movie?

Finally, an easy one! Hands down my favourite movie, or should I say movies is Harry Potter. I grew up with these films and they influenced my childhood so much. Even though the franchise finished years ago, to this day I still believe in the magic of Harry Potter. Just this Christmas I got Harry Potter socks! I am incredibly happy that I now have Fantastic Beasts to keep the magic alive, and one of my main goals is to go to Harry Potter World in Florida.

4. Why you like blogging?

Blogging is very new for me. Being-Chloe is only a few weeks old but so far I have loved every minute of it! I personally started blogging to keep me distracted from issues in my personal life (you can read about it here) but now it is so much more than that! Being-Chloe keeps me positive, and allows me to develop my creativity. I love engaging with other bloggers and seeing the amazing things that you have all achieved.

4. Your Favourite book?

Refer to question 3 haha! I love the Harry Potter books of course, even more so than the films and I read them over and over again. I have just purchased a kindle and so hopefully I will find more books to fall in love with!

5. Do you have any pets?img_0860-3

I do! I have my gorgeous little dog millie! She is a massive part of my life and I love her millions. Nothing makes me happier than my lil doggy!

6. Have you got any hobbies?

Growing up I didn’t have any hobbies which upsets me so much! Last year I began trampolining to give me exercise and plus it is SO much fun, I would definitely recommend it! I now consider blogging my hobby. It is something I really enjoy and I am certain it will continue for a really long time.

7. Your favourite food?

Again, another toughy! I tend to like all things Italian, Pizza, Spag Bol etc. I am a fussy eater so I stick to what I know… which isn’t alot. Everyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE nuggets.. like seriously, I love them. I could definitely eat nuggets for every meal, and I can demolish a 20 nugget sharebox after a night out!

8. Goals for this year?

I made a post of all my goals for 2018. One of my main ones is to try and be positive and to focus on all the good things I have in my life! I also want to achieve great things with my lab project at work and to travel the world!

9. Your favourite TV programme?

One of my all time favourite TV programmes has to be FRIENDS. I know, its a classic but who can blame me its bloody brilliant! I often binge watch the box set and still laugh as if it was my first time watching! I have also recently got into watching game of thrones and managed to binge watch all of the series in one month! (a proud personal achievement). Although I didn’t think I would, I also love watching The Crown on Netflix, it is much more interesting than I thought it would be, I would definitely recommend watching it.

10. Your favourite inspirational quote?

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light – Albus Dumbledore

11 Facts about me:

  • I go to Manchester University
  • I live in Wigan, UK

January can be a difficult month for lots of people. Once the excitement of Christmas and New Year has died down, many of us are left without any money and feeling quite glum. 2017 was a tough year for me, I found myself spending most of my days feeling down and not wanting to speak to anyone.

I was determined to make sure that I was much more like my normal self in 2018, however despite my best efforts, today was a tricky one! Instead of letting these emotions get the better of me, I thought I would make a post to help others beat these January Blues, and to give myself something to look back to on my sad days.

Here are the 5 ways I am going to beat this horrible month: Hopefully they will help you too!

1 Focus on my blog

If you read my first ever post on ‘Being Chloe’ (Here), you will know that the whole reasoning behind creating this blog was to give me something positive to focus on. Some of you might think that avoidance is not the best way to deal with any sad feelings, but for me it really helps. This month, I am going to properly focus on blogging, with 2 new posts every week to keep me busy and make Being Chloe the best it can be! I am proud of what I have achieved so far with this blog, and I am excited about the direction in which it is heading.

Meet my dog Millie!

2.  Long walks

Also in my ‘Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018’ post I said that one of my goals for the year was to walk my dog more. I am happy to say that I have stuck to this resolution so far! Long walks are good for clearing my head, getting exercise and seeing Millie loving life! This can be difficult to do with the short days and the bitterly cold weather, but I love how happy it makes my dog.

3. Read more

Towards the end of 2017 I spontaneously bought a kindle in the hopes that I would start to read more. I used to read all the time and I loved it! But sadly, Uni got in the way and so I didn’t have enough time to get really into a good book. This was a nice thought, but I only went and lost the charger and have yet to finish one book! Luck was on my side in 2018 and I found my charger, and so to beat the January Blues I am going to read more, especially on my train commute to work every day.

4. Keeping things tidy

With it being a new year, I thought this was the perfect time to declutter my room and make it much more neat and tidy! I now love spending time writing my posts in my room, and with the addition of a couple of (read: a lot of) fairy lights, it is very relaxing to be in here. This is something that is very easy to do, and you know what they say ‘Tidy room, Tidy mind’!

5. Being Positive

I know this is something that is probably very easy to say but difficult to do BUT I am determined to stick to it. I am trying to focus on all the good things I have in my life, my family, friends, job and of course my new blog instead of the negative thoughts that troubled me in 2017. I will try to find the good in any bad situation, and fingers crossed I can get through the bloody month! I also want to go with the flow this year with the ideology of ‘What is meant to be, will be’.

What are you doing to beat the January blues? Do you have any tips for staying postive or any book recommendations for me to read? Comment below!

Thankyou for reading, Chlo x
