Dermalogica SkinSolver treatment
How well do you know your skin? Do you know what skincare products you should and shouldn’t be using? I thought I was quite clued up on my skincare but there were so many things I didn’t know! I was recently invited to the new Dermalogica counter at John Lewis in Liverpool to experience a face mapping skin analysis* and a Dermalogica SkinSolver treatment*. I’ve been using the Dermalogica products for a year now and love them, but it was time to get my skincare in check and find out what is really working for me!
Dermalogica face mapping skin analysis
When I arrived at the Dermalogica counter in John Lewis in Liverpool, the lovely Ellie was quick to take care of me and explain what exactly the treatment involved. Ellie is a skincare expert and so performed an in-depth analysis based on both my skin and lifestyle. This was nothing scary, just a few questions about work, diet, stress levels and my current skincare routine as well as mapping my skin. Ellie explained that overall my skin is very good which I was so happy about. The only issues were congestion on my forehead and nose causing oiliness, some slight sensitivity on my cheeks and dehydration.
With this in mind, I had a full Dermalogica SkinSolver treatment using products that would be perfect for my skin type and to fix problem areas fast. Essentially creating a personalised skincare regimen just for me!
Dermalogica SkinSolver Treatment
The SkinSolver treatment is a 10-minute express seated treatment that can be done easily in-store. The professional skin therapist after analysing your skin will use Dermalogica products to quickly improve your skin. These are a perfect way to get to know your skin better, understand what products you should be using, or great for a quick pick-me-up before a special event.
Ellie covered me with sheets and used a headband so no products would spill on me and made me feel really comfortable. I really didn’t mind that I was in the middle of a store at all (even though I 100% resembled an old maid). Throughout the treatment, Ellie told me the products she was using and why, as well as giving me information about the ingredients and fab little tips and trick! Keep reading to find out my Skincare regimen!
The Dermalogica Double Cleanse
If you didn’t already know, Dermalogica’s philosophy on cleansing is simple – it’s so critical that you’ve got to do it twice! The Dermalogica double cleanse is a two-part routine that starts with an oil-based cleanser followed by your specific Dermalogica cleanser. I typically use the Dermalogica Precleanse and the Special cleansing gel in my current skincare routine, but Ellie changed this very slightly to help dryness in the winter.
Using the precleanse balm instead should lock in hydration, nourish the skin and remove any nasty things on my skin without drying it! This stuff literally melts the makeup off of your skin! Ellie then used the Ultra calming cleanser to get rid of impurities again without making my skin tight or dry. Using this one rather than the special cleansing gel should help with the sensitivity on my cheeks. Ellie used a special tool called the biotherapeutic (BT) Sonic to allow the cleanser to fully penetrate the skin, getting a much deeper cleanse!
The Dermalogica Daily microfoliant
After my skin was fully cleansed, the next step was exfoliation. I always use the Dermalogica daily microfoliant exfoliator, but in this session I realised I’ve been using it completely wrong. The daily microfoliant is a rice-based enzyme powder which gently removes dead cells and balances pigmentation for smoother, brighter skin!
I had been using the powder almost as a paste, so there was still a lot of grittiness in the mixture. Turns out, the more water the better, and the more you mix, the foamier the exfoliator gets. This is crucial to activate the salicylic acid and to properly unclog those pores. Ellie mixed it together in a bowl and applied it with a brush, which is definitely what I’ll be doing from now on! Ellie used the BT-micro tool to make sure all dead skin cells were removed! It was such a strange feeling, almost like it was zapping me (don’t worry not painful at all)!
The Dermalogica Multi-active toner
Next up was the Dermalogica multi-active toner. Did you know that using toner helps the skin to absorb active ingredients and shields your skin from the environment? Well, now you do! Turns out it’s crucial. Ellie sprayed my face with the toner and pressed it lightly to hydrate my skin. Fun tip – keep this in your handbag for a quick skin refresh throughout the day, or use on top of makeup as a setting spray! I will 100% be incorporating this into my skincare routine because my skin felt so hydrated afterwards!
The Dermalogica Phyto replenish oil
After the toner had settled, Ellie applied the phyto replenish oil This is an oil that utilises nature’s phytoactive’s to cure dryness and dehydration whilst stilll hydrating, strengthening and shielding from the environment. Whilst this was on the skin, Ellie pressed my pressure points in my face to remove the build of stress – corticosterone is bad for the skin guys! I honestly felt so chilled out afterwards, I could have fallen asleep right there in the middle of the store. Not only that, but my skin felt amazing afterwards, so silky and soft – I love this product!
The Dermalogica Active moist moisturiser
Typically, I tend to use the Dermalogica skin smoothing cream as my moisturiser but as it’s so thick, I mainly use it at night! Ellie suggested that I use the Dermalogica Active moist instead so that I can use it daily in the morning. It is water-based and so really lightweight to use every day!
The Dermalogica Skin perfect primer
Don’t forget your spf kids! I have had the Dermalogica skin perfect primer for a while, but honestly I never really use it! I’d been putting it under makeup but not really liking the effect! But, as it’s tinted, Ellie suggested using it as a tinted moisturiser to give me that bit of colour and coverage on those no-makeup days. After she used it, my skin was so soft and glowy, and I felt much better knowing that it had SPF 30 in and so I was protected against UV-A rays!
Dermalogica SkinSolver Treatment
So that was my full treatment and newly personalised skincare regimen. Don’t worry, it’s all written down for you so you won’t forget! The skin therapist asked if I had any more concerns and after saying I hated my undereye bags and dark circles recommended me to use the ‘Stress positive eye lift’ cream. I felt fully taken care of throughout the treatment and came away so much more knowledgeable about my skin, Dermalogica also very kindly gifted me their Athleisure Essential kit* containing the Stress positive eye lift, multi-active toner and skin perfect primer.
Thank you so much to Dermalogica and the lovely girls in the NEW John Lewis, Liverpool counter! My skin looks amazing! You can book a Face Analysis and SkinSolver treatment online in a store near you.
