Hi, lovelies, it’s official, Being-Chloe.com is one year old *pops party poppers*. It has been one incredible year, and I never thought I’d be where I am today! I’m still in shock that I hit one year of blogging, so like I did at one month, and 6 months I thought it would only be right to reflect on the past 12 months.
When I started blogging, I never intended to get any sort of audience or work with brands. I simply wanted to blog. My only goals were to throw myself into a hobby and to find a new passion to get me out of the rut I found myself in. Not once did I think people would actually want to read my rambles. I have achieved so much in the past year, and I’m so proud of my little space on the internet. I’m mainly putting these out there so that in one years time I can see my progression (my memory is bloody awful), but it also to see how far I’ve come! Here are a few things I achieved this year.
Starting blogging, I didn’t even know what a page view was, or a user, or even how to work WordPress. It blows my mind that 12 months later I have managed to achieve 35000 blog views. That number is crazy! When I first created BeingChloe I didn’t care how many people read my blog, I only hoped that someone, somewhere would find what I say interesting or helpful. It scares me that so many people have read my posts on my blog, but I am just so pleased that I have engaged with so many people with the written word. I’m annoyed that I didn’t go self-hosted straight away as my statistics are now spread over essentially two sites (complex maths has to go on over here kids), but hopefully, next year should be plain sailing and it will be easier to track how I’m doing.
Social Media followers:
Similar to the page views, I did not think that anybody would follow me, on any form of social media what so ever. I’m so happy I set up Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest for my blog as now I can engage with so many people in this community. Here are the number of followers I gained in my one year of blogging:
- Twitter – 3.5k
- Instagram – 1.3k
- Pinterest – 1.0k (300-1 million monthly views (depending on how often I pin))
Joining the Blogging community:
Of course, social media is a great way to promote your blog, but for me, it’s more about interacting with people from all over the world and different backgrounds. This is probably the thing I’m the happiest about this year. The blogging community is so lovely and welcoming, and there are so many people that I love talking to and supporting. Whether its a blog comment, a social media follow, or a simple tweet they all make me so happy and I can’t wait to speak to and hopefully meet more of you in 2019.
If you read my previous blogging reflection posts, you will know that I didn’t have any clue about blog terminology. DA, SEO and bloglovin could have been a foreign language for all I knew. But over time I managed to get to grip with some terminology (not all), for example, ‘Domain Authority’ (DA). I am by no means an expert, but DA is to do with how your blog ranks on google, right? All I really know is that the higher the score the better. I am really happy with how my DA score has improved since I went self-hosted in February (Now at 24), especially as I’m not good at this technical malarky.
Working with brands:
This is one thing I never ever thought I would do. Ever. In my one year of blogging, I’ve had so many opportunities, lots of which I’ve turned down because let’s be serious, some people don’t even read your blog before they email you. I’m in actual shock that I have been lucky enough to collaborate with the brands below and I hope I can continue working with these companies going into 2019.
- Adagio Teas
- KISS Products
- Hempz Beauty
- Adexe Watches (post coming next week!)
- I am also super excited to be become a Skinfluencer with Dermalogica UK going into 2019!
One thing I was sooo excited and grateful for this year was attending my very first blogging event with KISS Products and Alex Silver PR. I never in a million years expected to get invited to a blogging event, I was super nervous and felt like a fish out of water, but I am so proud of going all on my own and I met some amazing people. You can read all about my experience here.
2019 Blogging goals:
Like I said before, I never expected to work with brands, get followers or as many page views as I have. Blogging is a hobby, and I’m so grateful for some of the amazing opportunities it has brought me. I’ve always been competitive with myself so I am setting blogging goals for 2019 that I’m putting out there on the internet in the hopes that it will make me strive for them.
2019 brings the end to my university degree (woooo). However, I do know that my final semester will be actual hell on earth and I don’t think I will have as much time to dedicate to my blog. Of course, my degree has to come first so my first goal is to simply carry on blogging. No strict blogging schedule, no worrying over how often I post on social media, just to post whatever and whenever I want… simple!
I have set myself a very ambitious view goal for 2019…. above 90k views total since starting blogging. *never checks stats again*. I mean this may not be realistic with the stress of my final year of uni, so I am not expecting lots of views, but a girl can dream right? With almost 40k achieved this year, I am aiming for 50k+ in 2019 (I’ve got to one-up myself right?) but I am not putting too much pressure on this goal! I’d also love for this post to get to 10k (it is soooooo close – less than 400 to go!).
Social media following:
I wasn’t really sure what to aim for here, as really I just want to engage with more of you in 2019. More comments, more likes, more conversations with you all and to really get to know you. I am throwing out these numbers just to give myself some goals but again, I’m putting no pressure on myself. I’d like to reach 8k Twitter followers, 3k Instagram followers, and 2k Pinterest followers. I’d also like to grow my blog following to 2000 if poss (so subscribe … (plug)).
I don’t have much of a goal here, as I know how hard it is to grow DA so I’m not expecting miracles to happen. I think realistically I would like to increase my score to 30 (+6) but I will not hold my breath with that one!
Working with brands:
Like I said before, I hope to continue working with some of the brands I collaborated with this year. All my collaborations have been on a gifting basis or working as an affiliate, so I’m hoping to achieve just one sponsored post in 2019. I would love to work with more brands going into 2019 in general, and would like to put myself out there and pitch more myself! Finally, I want to go to 2 blogging events in 2019 (I feel like that’s ambitious in Manchester but we will see).
Wow nearly 1.5k words… Sorry! So that was my year. I would like to say a bloody massive thank you to each and every one of you who have been on this journey with me over the past year. I never expected to achieve what I have, and all of it is down to you guys. I’m super excited to see what 2019 bring me, and I hope you will all still be here with me.
Thank you for reading, as always,
